What’s been happening in the tech and vendor world in January? We compiled the latest vendor news and trending topics of the past month. It takes just a few minutes to be up to date.

Vendor news

AWS has added machine learning capabilities to its cloud-based contact center service, Amazon Connect.

AWS has also launched a new cloud infrastructure region in India and will invest $4.4B in data centres in 2023. In the past 3 months, AWS has announced plans to invest $2.5 billion in Spain, $5.9 billion in Switzerland, $5 billion in Thailand and more than $5 billion in the UAE.

Expansion and Partnerships for AWS:

Citrix Systems is set to be merged with integration and analytics software maker Tibco to jointly acquire the cloud computing and virtualisation vendor for USD16.5 billion.

IBM bolsters fed business with “Octo” buy, a Reston, Virginia-based provider of IT solutions to the federal government.

New leadership for IBM Software business, makes key executive changes.

Microsoft invests $10 Billion in ChatGPT Maker OpenAI whose revolutionary artificial intelligence tool “ChatGPT” lead to the general availability of Azure OpenAI Service to enable customers to do more with fewer resources, improve end-user experience and “streamline operational efficiencies internally.”

Microsoft signs $2.8 Bn cloud deal with London Stock Exchange Group that allowed the software giant to buy a 4% stake in the Exchange and a 10-year partnership to move all its systems to Microsoft Azure Cloud and work to develop new data and analytics products.

$2.4 billion quarterly investment by Oracle in cloud infra accelerated 48% growth in the second quarter, helping the company revenue grow 25% year-on-year overall.

Oracle to open cloud region in Chicago to offer customers and partners a new option to locate their infrastructure, applications, and data for optimal performance and latency.

SAP and AWS shake hands to accelerate demand and digital transformation for customers.

VMware and Equinax announced an expanded global relationship to deliver new digital infrastructure and multi-cloud services.

Tech news

In a continuation of the technology companies’ lay-off announcements last month, Microsoft is laying-off 10,000 employees as it braces for slower revenue growth. Alphabet, Amazon, and Salesforce are among the other few technology companies that have lowered headcount in recent weeks.

As per Gartner’s forecast worldwide government IT spending is to grow by 6.8% with the top three priorities of government CIOs remaining – digital transformation, leveraging and using data effectively and technology modernization in 2023.

According to Forrester, Public cloud Is poised to surpass $1 trillion by 2026, predicting that cloud infrastructure services will account for nearly $496 billion in revenue in 2026.

AI software spending will double from $33 billion in 2021 to $64 billion in 2025 and will grow 50% faster than the overall software market, with an annual growth rate of 18%.

While Microsoft invests billion in AI, consulting major McKinsey, eyeing the MLOps space, buys enterprise-focused AI-Focussed – Iguazio.

Gartner predicts that by 2023 low-code tech is projected to grow to approximately $27 billion. Hyperautomation and composability are factors driving an increase in low-code adoption.
